Schuco vs Cortizo: Specifying the Right System for Your Commercial Project

Schuco vs Cortizo: Specifying the Right System for Your Commercial Project

Product GuidePublished 10 February 2026By BDF Architectural

BDF Architectural is an approved partner of both Schuco and Cortizo — two of Europe's most specified aluminium system manufacturers. On any given week we are delivering both systems simultaneously across different commercial and residential projects in London and the UK. This gives us a unique perspective on where each system excels and when to specify one over the other. This is an honest, technical comparison written for architects, project managers and main contractors.

About Schuco

Schuco International is a German aluminium systems manufacturer headquartered in Bielefeld, with over 70 years of experience in facade engineering. Their product range spans curtain walling, facade cladding, sliding and folding door systems, and windows — all developed with a strong emphasis on thermal performance, precision engineering and architectural detail. Schuco systems are widely specified on Grade A commercial offices, high-end residential development, and public buildings across the UK and Europe.

About Cortizo

Cortizo is a Spanish aluminium manufacturer with a growing presence across European commercial markets. Their product range covers sliding doors, bifold systems, windows and entrance doors. Cortizo has built a strong reputation for competitive pricing without compromising build quality — their systems meet all relevant European standards and are increasingly specified alongside Schuco on mixed-use and residential-led developments.

System Range Comparison

  • Curtain walling: Schuco offers a comprehensive range including unitised, stick and structurally glazed systems — Cortizo does not currently offer curtain walling at commercial scale
  • Sliding doors: both manufacturers offer high-performance lift-and-slide systems; Schuco ASS 70.HI and Cortizo Cor Vision Plus are the respective flagship products
  • Bifold doors: both offer multi-panel folding systems; Schuco's AS FD 75/90.HI is the premium commercial option; Cortizo Bifold Plus is increasingly competitive on residential development
  • Windows: Schuco AWS 70 range offers outstanding thermal performance for commercial and high-end residential; Cortizo Arch Invisible provides a distinctive concealed-hardware option
  • Entrance doors: both offer panel door systems; Aluprof (also supplied by BDF Architectural) provides the most comprehensive pivot and high-security panel door range

Thermal Performance

Both Schuco and Cortizo systems exceed current UK Building Regulations thermal requirements. Schuco's proprietary thermal break technology consistently achieves the lowest U-values in each product category — particularly relevant for Passivhaus and near-zero energy projects. Cortizo performs excellently for standard and enhanced commercial specifications where sub-1.0 W/m²K is not a project requirement.

Certification and Documentation

Both systems carry CE marking under relevant harmonised standards. Schuco provides extensive performance test documentation, BIM objects, NBS specification clauses and RIBA-accredited CPD sessions — which makes the specification process faster and more defensible. Cortizo documentation is improving rapidly as they grow their UK market presence. For projects requiring detailed third-party certification (HRBs, government projects), Schuco's documentation package is currently more comprehensive.

Which to Specify?

  • Specify Schuco for: curtain walling packages, Passivhaus projects, architect-led specifications where brand matters, government and public sector buildings, projects requiring the most comprehensive technical documentation
  • Specify Cortizo for: premium residential development, mixed-use schemes with large door and window packages, projects where value is a primary driver without compromising quality, bifold and sliding door packages
  • Use both on the same project where it makes sense — curtain walling in Schuco and bifold/sliding doors in Cortizo is a common and cost-effective combination

BDF Architectural can assist with system selection, early-stage cost planning and specification writing for both Schuco and Cortizo packages. Contact our commercial team to arrange a technical discussion.
