Perforated Metal Façade Panels

Perforated metal façade panels are metal sheets punched with a pattern of holes, and BDF Architectural supplies and installs bespoke perforated metal façade systems for commercial, cultural and residential buildings across London and the UK, in aluminium, stainless steel or weathering steel.

The panels are used as an outer layer over glazing, plant, car parks or balconies. The pattern and the open area, meaning how much of the sheet is hole, decide how much light, air and view gets through, so one material can shade a south-facing elevation, screen plant from the street, give privacy to a balcony or add texture to a plain façade. Patterns, panel sizes and powder-coated or anodised finishes are made to the project, and the same panels can be used for balustrades, canopies and interior screens.

Perforated panels are usually carried on a framing system fixed back to the structure, in the same way as rainscreen cladding, and can be combined with curtain walling, rainscreen and brise soleil on the same building. As part of the external wall, the panels and their fixings are specified against Approved Document B and the project fire strategy like any other cladding, and are sized for the wind load on the elevation.
