About Bespoke Aluminium Fins
Façade fins are deep aluminium blades fixed at right angles to the glass, vertically or horizontally, and BDF Architectural fabricates and installs bespoke aluminium fins for commercial and residential façades across London and the UK. They give a building strong lines and shade the glazing at the same time.
Vertical fins cut low-angle east and west sun; horizontal fins cut high summer sun on south elevations. Because the fin is often the defining feature of the elevation, its profile is drawn for the project, from simple rectangular blades to tapered, swept or angled extrusions, and fabricated to the exact specification, powder-coated in any RAL colour or anodised.
Fins are most often fixed to the mullions of curtain walling, where they line up with the grid and read as part of the façade, or fixed back to the structure through rainscreen cladding. Either way the fixing has to carry the fin's weight and the wind load on it without breaking the weather line, so fins are best designed with the façade they sit on rather than added afterwards. We can combine them with brise soleil and louvres on the same building and supply them in the same package as the curtain walling or cladding.
